By now, I’m sure everyone who has an interest in the possible connection between vaccines and autism has heard about Dr. Wakefield and his supposedly “fraudulent” research. Never mind that his results have been independently replicated – twice! (http://sparkdevelopment.blogspot.com/2011/02/offit-wakefield-hot-sticky-wax.html).
But, here’s an interesting piece of news. The CDC funded (i.e., United States taxpayer funded) researcher who headed The Danish Study (the one cited as proof that there is supposedly no connection between the MMR and autism), Poul Thorsen, has been indicted for fraud.
Seems that Thorsen has been charged with 13 counts of wire fraud and nine counts of money laundering. Specifically, it is alleged that Thorsen stole over $1 million from autism research funding he received in connection with The Danish Study, and used the proceeds to buy a home in Atlanta, two cars and a Harley Davidson.
